Kompletterande prov vid analys av Läck-beta trace protein för att diagnostisera likvorläckage. Vid nedsatt njurfunktion ökar S-beta trace protein, vilket kan ge falskt högt beta trace även i läckage vätskan.
Provröret vänds minst 5 ggr (fram och ĺter) efter provtagning. Centrifugeras vid 1300 - 1800 g i 10 min efter att provet har koagulerat.
Om provet inte anländer till laboratoriet inom 24 h skall provet centrifugeras före transport. Om ej gelrör används hälles serumet av i ett annat rör före transport.

Fróđleikur: Beta-trace protein (β-TP) has been analysed in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and other body fluids. Beta-trace protein is a very sensitive and specific clinical marker and can confirm reliably the presence of CSF in patients with a suspected CSF leakage.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage occurs mainly as a complication of head injuries or skull-base surgeries, but may also occur spontaneously or as a result of nontraumatic processes such as inflammatory disorders or tumors. Detection and management of CSF leakage is essential to prevent possible life-threatening infections of the central nervous system . Radiologic and invasive procedures may be used for the diagnosis of CSF leaks, but these procedures are laborious, expensive, and present potential risk to the patient. Therefore, noninvasive laboratory methods serve as screening procedures before definitive procedures are used to localize the site of the debet.β-Trace protein (βTP), recently identified as prostaglandin D2 synthase, is another brain-specific protein that is produced mainly in the leptomeninges and the choroid plexus and is secreted into the CSF. βTP is the second most abundant protein in CSF after albumin. However, it is also present in other body fluids, including serum, albeit at much lower concentrations than in CSF
