    Guideline statement
    • Quarantine related to travel: When two COVID-19 screening results are reported negative (upon arrival in Iceland and on day 5-6) a person is no longer in quarantine in the community.
    • Quarantine related to exposure: Home quarantine lasts for 14 days from last possible exposure. It can be shortened for asymptomatic individuals by screening test after 7 days. If the results are negative a person is no longer in quarantine in the community but special caution needs to be taken regarding vulnerable groups until 14 days have passed from exposure. If an infected individual lives in the same place quarantine cannot be shortened.
Employees are not allowed to work for 14 days after travelling or exposure for COVID-19 unless an exepmtion has been granted.

To minimize the disruption of the organization's operational capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic, an application for an exemption can be submitted to the hospital´s Epidemic Committee. In special circumstances, where other means are not possible, a qualified asymptomatic employee who has tested negative upon arrival in Iceland and on day 5-6 for COVID-19 or on day seven after last exposure may be authorized to return to work provided certain conditions are met. Such exemption from quarantine is called quarantine C.

Requirements for an exemption to be granted
    1. The direct line manager has sent an application for exemption and it has been approved by the Epidemic Committee.
    2. Other resources are not available, such as transfer of qualified employees within the organization and substitute staff is not available.
    3. The work contribution of the employee is necessary to ensure patient safety.
    4. The employee is asymptomatic, not knowingly exposed to the virus and the COVID-19 screening tests upon arrival to Iceland and on day 5-6 were negative.
    5. The employee is asymptomatic, does not live with an individual infected with COVID-19 and screening test on day seven after exposure is negative.

Instructions for employees in quarantine C
