    The purpose of this guideline is to provide guidance and outline the responsibility of both the direct line manager and the employee, when an employee is granted an exemption to work according to quarantine C rules during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    It is the responsibility of the Epidemic Committee to review applications for exemptions from quarantine and approve the application if the criteria for quarantine C is met. It is the responsibility of the direct line manager to apply for quarantine C exemption and inform their staff of these guidelines and to ensure that these guidelines are followed.
    When the contact tracing team in Landspitali decides quarantine C for the employee it's not necessary for the direct line manager to apply for it.

    Requirements for quarantine C exemption

    Fully vaccinated employee or previously COVID-19 infected employee
    • After travelling, vaccinated employees are not in quarantine in the community.
    • If work begins within 5 days of return from travel, the employee must submit a negative PCR sample for COVID-19 (taken after arrival) BEFORE returning to work in quarantine C.
    • Quarantine C ends with negative PCR screening test on day 5 after arrival (arrival day is day zero).
    • Quarantine C ends with negative PCR screening test on day 7 after exposure with COVID-19 infected patient.
    • Employee or his direct line manager order COVID-19 screening test by sending email to starfsmannahjukrun@landspitali.is.

    Unvaccinated employee or vaccination is not completed
    • Quarantine due to travel: The direct line manager can apply for exemption if the employee is asymptomatic and has submitted two negative COVID-19 PCR tests (upon arrival in Iceland and on day 5-6) and the employee is no longer in quarantine in the community. Quarantine C ends 14 days after arrival.
    • Quarantine due to exposure: Employee follow the guidelines from the Directorate of health regarding home quarantine. Home quarantine lasts for 14 days but can be shortened for asymptomatic employee by screening test 7 days after exposure. The direct line manager can apply for exemption for the employee if the results on day 7 are negative and the employee is no longer in quarantine in the community. If an infected individual lives in the same place quarantine cannot be shortened. Quarantine C end 14 days after exposure.
    • Quarantine at the same place as COVID-19 infected patient: The direct line manager can apply for exemption if the employee has been asymptomatic and home quarantine has ended with negative PCR COVID test. Quarantine C end 14 days after exposure.

    Fully vaccinated employee - isolation has ended after COVID-19 infection and he has been discharged from the COVID out patient clinic
    1. Can work in quarantine C.
    2. Quarantine ends 7 days after discharge fromt he COVID out patient clinic.
    3. The direct line manager sends email to farsottanefnd@landspitali.is with informations about the discharge from the COVID out patient clinic.
    Community exposure to COVID-19 without home quarantine as determined by the contact tracing team, regardless of vaccination status
    • If the employee resides with someone in home quarantine, he/she must work in quarantine C (if approved by the epidemic committee). Quarantine C concludes once the roommate/relative receives a negative COVID-19 result.
    • If the employee receives a text message or exposure notification by the tracking app and is determined by the team not to require home isolation, quarantine C begins (if approved by the epidemic committee). Quarantine C concludes when a negative COVID-19 sample is received on day 7.
    Instructions for employees in quarantine C
    • The epidemic committee must approve quarantine C before the employee may return to work.
    • An employee in quarantine C is not in a home quarantine in the community.
    • Occupational quarantine C includes stricter rules for work at Landspitali:
      • The employee is required to perform a daily symptom check according to the hospital´s guidelines for monitoring workers in quarantine C. If COVID-19 symptoms arise or illness is suspected, the employee must leave the hospital immediately, isolate at home/hotel and contact their direct line manager. Further information regarding testing is provided by their manager or the occupational health department (tel. 543 1330 or e-mail: starfsmannahjukrun@landspitali.is).
      • The employee is required to wear a surgical mask and to maintain a two-meter distance from other employees and patients wherever possible.
      • The employee is only allowed to doff the surgical mask while eating or drinking, provided that the employee can maintain at least a two-meter distance from other staff.
      • The employee is required to perform hand hygiene using alcohol-based sanitizer or with water and soap when indicated and after being in common staff areas (toilets and staff lounge).
      • The employee in quarantine C has restricted access to the hospital and should minimize movement outside their work area as much as possible, are not allowed to use the shuttle, attend meetings i.e. educational meetings, faculty meetings, staff meetings, etc.
